Recruiting for Control Engineers
If you are an experienced Controls Engineer looking for a new position please read on! This is a typical job description from one of our clients.
The Controls Engineer provides leadership and technical expertise as the project engineer on electrical projects. Primary focus will be on electrical projects dealing with controls, data acquisition, power distribution, wiring and other related issues. A key area of responsibility includes the troubleshooting of electrical problems as they relate to the production line process. In addition, it is expected that this individual will provide ongoing training to the Electronic Technicians for skill and ability enhancement in troubleshooting and repair.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Manages the design and installation of electrical/electronic equipment including electrical power distribution systems, PLC's, instrumentation, variable speed AC and DC drives
* Plans and performs work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical/electronic and mechanical theories and principles, writing specifications, local and national electrical codes as they relate to a continuous operation process
* Works with the maintenance planner to ensure electrical projects are properly scheduled on PMD's and with the maintenance engineer to develop a good electrical/electronic preventative maintenance system
* Develops clear and concise operator instruction manuals
* Performs design calculations and prepares equipment or material specifications for electrical and electronic PLC based systems
* Periodically investigates and makes an analysis of electrical or electronic based problems associated with the production operations and takes the appropriate action to correct these problems
* Plans and at times performs hands on work that requires a thorough knowledge of electrical/electronic and mechanical theories and principles, writing specifications, local and national electrical codes, and principles of operation and application of electronic equipment
* Designs and conducts research for PLC based control systems and based on the outcome of this research makes recommendations to modify or install systems
* Writes detailed funding requests for projects assigned
* Directs and supervises the work of outside contractors and bargaining unit hourly employees
* Assists and trains maintenance, production or other employees as needed with technical or troubleshooting related matters
REQUIREMENTS:
* A BS Degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 5 years experience in continuous process manufacturing environment, with expertise focused on electrical components, electrical power distribution systems, PLC's, instrumentation, variable speed AC and DC drives is required.
* The selected candidate will be skilled in the design, installation, and upkeep of PLC based controls in a manufacturing environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* Demonstrated experience in the development, installation and maintenance of data acquisition systems and HMI systems, such as Wonderware.
